Trained in Ballyfermot’s Classical Animation Programme, I leapt the pond in 1998 and landed a job as an animator in O’Plenty Animation Studio, in New Jersey, mostly doing narrative work, commercials and music videos. I directed two shorts, Daniel the Daydreaming Mouse, on 35mm:
and Bright Lights, Big City, for which I got a Irish Film Board grant, in 2004:
More recently, I designed and created a series of YouTube cartoons for our Little Whizz Kid Channel, like this one I created for Easter 2014. Making cartoons for this format has taught me a lot: and the sheer reach YouTube offers is exciting; the idea that children in countries as far away as Colombia or Mexico are enjoying our cartoons is inspiring and charming.
